    Job Description

    Fresh Approach seeks a detail-oriented and organized East Palo Alto/San Mateo County resident with good public communication skills to support Fresh Approach’s food access program in East Palo Alto. This position is primarily responsible for planning, coordination, and implementation of the organization’s South Bay food access projects including the East Palo Alto Community Farmers’ Market (2555 Pulgas Ave) and community outreach. This is a part-time position that will require about 7-8 hours per week of support in East Palo Alto, from late March 2026 through late November 2026. The weekly shift is every Wednesday morning from 7:30am-3:30pm. The ambassador role is compensated at an hourly rate of $22.00/hour. Responsibilities On-Site Support of the East Palo Alto Community Farmers Market (2555 Pulgas Ave, East Palo Alto) on Wednesdays from 7:30 Am – 3:30 PM Assist other FA staff with market set-up and breakdown, setting up and picking up A-frames, EBT and matching transactions, customer service, and record keeping. Support with post-farmers’ market administration activities, such as breaking down the market, counting incentive vouchers, and finalizing paperwork. Administer surveys and conduct in-person referrals to market shoppers. Conduct outreach in the East Palo Alto community Support on-site outreach efforts toward current and potential recipients of public benefits including WIC, CalFresh (SNAP or food stamps), SSI, SSDI, Medi-Cal, and the Senior Food Program. Deliver messages that encourage better choices about nutrition while providing a greater understanding of sustainable agriculture and its role in supporting local food systems. Distribute promotional materials at the market. Interface with Staff Participate in and be punctual for occasional check-ins regarding programmatic support as well as personal and professional development. Be a Team Player Collaborate with other program staff to coordinate actions on new project development. Participate in community tabling and outreach events to share about Fresh Approach programs such as our nutrition classes and VeggieRx vouchers.     Requirements

    Bilingual: An intermediate level of proficiency in English and Spanish is required. Conversational proficiency in other frequently used languages in the Bay Area is also highly valued. In-person work on Wednesdays from 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM Occasional work on the weekends, early mornings, or late evenings (some community events happen on the weekends) Work outside in all weather conditions Reliable transportation within San Mateo County Be able to stand for 1-2 hours at a time Be able to lift 30lbs of equipment in and out of a vehicle Must be comfortable speaking in front of groups and working with a wide range of people from various socio-economic backgrounds

    Benefits for part-time positions, defined as less than 30 hours per week, include sick-time accruals and paid holidays; and a 403b retirement plan with employer matching after one year of employment. Employment may continue beyond part-time employment term at Fresh Approach’s discretion
