    Community Outreach & Engagement Program Specialist

    Job Description

    Job Summary Reporting to the Outreach & Engagement Program Manager, the Outreach & Engagement Program Specialist is responsible for implementing Fresh Approach’s community outreach and engagement activities in the East and South Bay regions, which include projects to promote and incentivize the use of public benefits at farmers’ markets, the Volunteer and Internship Program, the Community Ambassador Program, and the Community Advisory Board. Responsibilities ● Coordinate and expand the Community Ambassador program ○ Work with program managers to develop ambassador job descriptions for relevant program areas ○ Develop outreach strategies to reach a diverse population of potential applicants, including but not limited to working with partner community organizations, attending community events, distributing flyers, and posting opportunities online ○ Provide training and onboarding to Community Ambassadors, including: arranging their schedule of activities, providing ongoing support, identifying opportunities for skill-building and leadership development for each ambassador ● Recruit, train, supervise, and track volunteers and interns for Fresh Approach’s programs ○ Work with the Program Manager as primary coordinator of interns and volunteers, to develop recruitment/marketing materials, maintain volunteer and intern listings, and conduct outreach to recruit a diverse pool of volunteers and interns (including but not limited to working with partner community organizations, attending community events, distributing flyers, and posting opportunities online) ○ Respond to inquiries, screen potential candidates, and assist in the intern hiring process ○ Provide orientation and training to new volunteers and interns ○ Create internship agreements and collect other required paperwork for new interns; coordinate with the Finance and Administration team to ensure stipend payments are made ○ Schedule volunteers and interns to support program activities, provide supervision, and implement best practices for volunteer retention ○ Maintain the database for tracking volunteers and interns ○ Assist with planning corporate volunteer workdays at the East Palo Alto Community Garden in collaboration with the Garden team ● Support projects to promote and incentivize the use of public benefits at farmers’ markets ○ Develop partnerships and work closely with community organizations, government agencies, and farmers’ markets throughout the Bay Area ○ Work with Program Manager and Fresh Approach’s Marketing and Promotion team to develop outreach and promotional materials for use at farmers’ markets, nutrition classes, and community events ○ Assist with developing outreach strategies and delivering outreach materials to partner organizations throughout the Bay Area ○ Assist with data collection and evaluation of the impacts of outreach campaigns ● Support membership recruitment, engagement, retention, and leadership development of the Community Advisory Board ○ Respond to inquiries and screen potential members to join the Community Advisory Board ○ Support with facilitating and assisting Community Advisory Board members with planning and implementing meetings ○ Assist Community Advisory Board members with the onboarding process of new members ○ Create member agreements, and collect other required paperwork for new members; coordinate with the Finance and Administration team to ensure stipend payments are made ○ Maintain database for tracking member participation ● Be a Team Player ○ Collaborate with other program staff to coordinate actions on projects ○ Support outreach and fundraising events as a means of increasing Fresh Approach awareness, as schedule permits ○ Attend regular staff meetings and program team meetings ○ Maintain a high level of integrity as a representative of Fresh Approach ● Represent Fresh Approach to develop, build and sustain partnerships with public and private agencies whose missions and activities are complementary to those of Fresh Approach ● Perform other duties as assigned

    Requirements

    Requirements ● Bilingual: A high proficiency in English and Spanish is required ● This position requires the employee to work in an office environment and outside in all weather conditions ● This position requires the employee to interact with farmers and other vendors, persons of various socio-economic backgrounds, and the general public ● This position requires the ability to lift equipment (up to 40lbs) in and out of a vehicle ● Requires a California driver’s license with a safe driving record ● This position requires reliable transportation due to the nature of the program and organizational activities ● This position requires occasional weekend work and early morning or late evening work

    Benefits

    Conditions of Employment ● This is a full-time non-exempt position (30-40 hours per week), reporting to the Outreach & Engagement Program Manager. ● This position starts at an hourly rate of $26.25/hour. Because we know the practice of compensation negotiation can contribute to pay inequities, this rate is non-negotiable. ● Benefits for full-time positions include medical, dental, and vision coverage paid by the employer; vacation and sick time accruals; and a 403b retirement plan with employer match, subject to vesting. ○ Vacation benefits include 16 paid holidays per year, as well as 10 additional paid vacation days accrued in the first year of employment. Progressive years of employment include additional accrued vacation days.
